Arsenal ready to move in transfer market if needed – Mikel Arteta
The January transfer window swings open in three days and there are plenty of big talking points heading into the New Year. Tottenham are in desperate need of reinforcements at the back after an injury crisis in north London. Liverpool's Joe Gomez is among their long list of potential targets, which includes Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice, Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth and Genoa's Radu Dragusin as well.
Fierce rivals Arsenal are also on the lookout for a defender, ideally a versatile one. They have their eye on £68million-rated Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt but may have to wait until the summer to table a bid due to FFP issues.
Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, Mason Greenwood is attracting plenty of interest from top European clubs. AC Milan, Barcelona and Getafe, who he is currently on loan at, are keen on taking him on a permanent deal but it is Barcelona who lead the pack. Barca scouts have reportedly been scouting the Manchester United academy graduate for the last three games and intend to make their interest known.
Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres has dismissed talk of a January move to Chelsea, who have been heavily linked with the former Coventry marksman in recent weeks.
Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, he said: "I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment. I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me.
"Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all."

Newcastle are at odds with Manchester City over the terms of a potential January move for Kalvin Phillips, according to TEAMtalk.
It is said that all parties are open to doing a deal, with Phillips eager to leave City in order to play regular football elsewhere.
Newcastle are thought to be chasing a straight loan move, while City would like an obligation for the Magpies to buy Phillips included in the transfer.
Ange Postecoglou isn't expecting anything "magical" in to happen in the January transfer window for Tottenham despite the north Londoners being desperate for reinforcements following a string of injuries in their first-team squad.
“The transfer window… nothing magical is going to happen in the January window," he said. “What we need to do is just keep building. We’ll see what we can do but ultimately it's about building a side that will get us to where we want to."
Arsenal will be boosted by the news that Brentford are reportedly searching for a new striker amid concerns they could lose Ivan Toney in January. According to GOAL, Brentford have opened talks to sign USMNT international and FC Cincinnati striker Brandon Vazquez. The Gunners are currently chasing Toney's signature but there have been several reports suggesting the Englishman is set to stay at the Gtech Community Stadium until the summer.
Tottenham shot-stopper Hugo Lloris is reportedly in talks with MLS side Los Angeles FC as he looks to call time on his 11-year stint in north London. The Frenchman has been confined to the bench since Guglielmo Vicario's arrival in the summer and according to the Daily Mail, he is now set to leave the England for the United States.
Several Premier League clubs are reportedly considering a move for Roberto Firmino in January. The Brazilian forward hasn't started for Saudi side Al-Ahli since October after being ousted from the starting XI by Saudi Arabian international Firas Al-Buraikan. According to talkSPORT, Firmino is hoping to leave his new club just six months after joining amidinterest from England, Turkey and other Saudi clubs.
Barcelona have dropped a major hint that they are interested in signing Mason Greenwood. According to the Sun, the Spanish giants have sent scouts to Greenwood's last three games for Genoa. The Manchester United loanee is attracting interest from multiple top European clubs including AC Milan and Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Genoa are said to have approached United with a £40m offer already.
Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Matthijs de Light in January. The £68m-rated centre-back has seen his game time reduced since the arrival of Kim Min-Jae in the summer and may consider a move away in pursuit of more regular minutes. Arsenal may have to wait until the summer, however, due to FFP issue s as per the Athletic.
Tottenham are planning on snatching Liverpool's versatile defender Joe Gomez in January to help ease tensions on their backline after a string of injuries, according to reports. Gomez has four years remaining on his contract at Anfield and is becoming an increasingly important member of Jurgen Klopp's squad so Liverpool won't be in any rush to sell him but if the Spurs table the right offer they could get their man.
