Liverpool told they should have made three more signings and Jurgen Klopp 'knows it'
Liverpool made four signings in the summer transfer window but that wasn't enough according to a Reds legend.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp knows he should have made another three signings in the summer, claims Reds legend John Aldridge. The former striker says his old club should have signed another defensive midfielder, as well as a new centre-back and full-back.
Liverpool made four signings in the transfer window, all of which were midfielders. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were the first two players through the door early in the summer.
The departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Pro League saw Liverpool pull out the surprise signing of Wataru Endo. They finished the window by completing a deadline-day deal for Netherlands midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
In all, Liverpool spent around £145million on their four acquisitions. Aldridge understands there has been a rebuild job going on at Anfield.
However, he says Klopp will know that he is still short in a number of areas on the pitch. Aldridge doesn't think Gravenberch is the answer in defensive midfield, while admitting Liverpool are also limited in options in two positions at the back.
Aldridge, speaking at the launch of William Hill's first Home Shop in Liverpool, said: "We’re doing a little bit of a rebuild situation, as we all know. Some big players have gone out, so you just need to trust Jurgen Klopp – hopefully the owners will give him the tools he needs.
"Some people think it hasn’t been a great pre-season with some of the signings, but it’s not that bad! You look at the two lads in midfield who have come in, in particular – Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai – and they excite me. Having said that, we all know as fans that we all need at least one more centre-half.

"Up front, we’ve got five fantastic players and goalscorers, plus another lad who excites me as well – Ben Doak. I love watching his attitude; he’s like one of the proper Jocks who used to play for Liverpool and I think we’ll see a lot of him this season – so there’s actually six attackers there.
"For the midfield – I do think that they lack a defensive midfield player. I don’t know what Ryan Gravenberch is going to be like. For me, the club needed a top centre-half and perhaps a top full-back as well – but the manager already knows that."
