Sunderland and Coventry became the final two Championship teams to secure their spot in the play-offs in a dramatic final day of the regular season. Millwall and Coventry had their own fate in their hands ahead of kick-off on Monday and the latter needed only a draw to secure their place in the play-offs.
But Blackburn, Sunderland and West Brom were all finely poised to make the most of any slip up from those above them. A lot rested on Jon Dahl Tomasson's side getting a result against Millwall, but it looked incredibly unlikely after the first half.
Millwall raced to a 3-1 lead after scoring two goals within three minutes of each other. But the game - and the play-off picture - was turned on its head in the second half when goals from Joe Rankin-Costello and Ben Brereton Diaz brought things level.
Meanwhile, Sunderland were showing no signs of nerves on their end as they held a comfortable lead over Preston. And Blackburn's sensational comeback was complete late on through Brereton Diaz in a fitting goodbye for the talented attacker.
Blackburn ended up missing out on the play-offs on goal difference as Sunderland ultimately took the final spot behind Coventry.
