Liverpool saw their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season dealt a major blow after a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. Goals from Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish gave Pep Guardiola’s side all three points, with Mohamed Salah previously opening the scoring. Express Sport now takes a look at four Reds players who let Jurgen Klopp down as they crashed to yet another disappointing loss.

Andy Robertson has been Liverpool’s Mr Dependant since moving to the club from Hull back in 2017.
Yet, like Van Dijk, the Scotland international currently looks a shadow of his usual self.
Robertson was guilty of failing to track the run of Jack Grealish for City’s opener, while he was too inverted for De Bruyne’s goal.
The Liverpool star should also have done better for Gundogan’s goal, too, failing to be tough enough in the tackle to prevent the German international from notching.

Jordan Henderson
Jordan Henderson remains a good squad player for Liverpool.
But he looks out of his depth when starting games at this level as he approaches the twilight years of his career.
Like Fabinho, his lack of energy was clear to see. City duo Gundogan and Rodri pulled the strings, with John Stones also impressing in a midfield role throughout the game.
Liverpool gave Henderson a four-year contract just two years ago.
But they’ll need an upgrade if they’re to get back to challenging for the biggest and best prizes on offer.

What next for both sides?
City have now closed the gap on Arsenal to just five points at the top of the table.
And they’ll be hoping to boost their chances of going all the way for a third season on the trot when they face off against Southampton on Saturday.
As for Liverpool, Chelsea are up next.
Though the Blues have been poor this term, they’ll be hoping the home comforts of Stamford Bridge can help them clinch all three points.
Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four also look to be in tatters, too.
