Glazers out? – Takeover talk ramps up at Manchester United
Joel and Avram Glazer feel Manchester United are ‘undervalued’ as a club, it has been claimed. There’s been plenty of chatter about the Americans potentially selling up, especially with Sir Jim Ratcliffe interested in purchasing the fallen Premier League giants. However, there’s still no guarantee that’ll happen in the foreseeable future.
Takeover talk at Manchester United has ramped up in recent times.
Ratcliffe has admitted he’d love to purchase the Red Devils, though the British billionaire also conceded it would be difficult given the Glazers’ current refusal to part ways with their huge asset.
Michael Knighton, who tried to buy the club in the 1980s, has also signalled his intent to oust the Glazers.
And, now, football finance expert Kieran Maguire has claimed both Avram and Joel Glazer feel the Red Devils are ‘undervalued’.
“When it comes to Jim Ratcliffe, he is very much all or nothing, in my view,” he told Football Insider.
“If he wants to bring his expertise to Man United, it would be as a controlling partner. That would mean the Glazers would have to give up more than 51 per cent of the club.

“Joel and Avram Glazer in particular do feel that United as a brand is very much undervalued.
“I think it’s interesting that if we take a look at the markets since the Jim Ratcliffe interview was communicated, the share price has once again fallen below $13.
“Remember, United were first listed on the Stock Exchange by the Glazers at $14. The share price performance has been poor.
“If there was any encouragement from Ratcliffe’s comments, you would have expected the price to bounce up, but that has not been the case. I cannot see the Glazer selling for anything less than $25 to $30 per share.
“It might not be the news United fans want to hear, but it looks as though Ratcliffe will look elsewhere as far as investment in football is concerned.
“They have put a lot of hope into him but it is unlikely to be the team from Old Trafford that he buys."
The trophies initially kept coming at Old Trafford, with Ferguson able to win five Premier League titles following the change of ownership.
But, since his retirement in 2013, fan fury has only risen.
United have failed to win the Premier League title in the nine years since, while only managing FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League triumphs during that spell.
And there still seems no sign the Glazers will sell United, despite the fact their popularity these days is at an all-time low.
Ratcliffe, meanwhile, recently spoke out on his interest in buying United - and admitted he wasn’t getting his hopes up.
