Erik ten Hag on Cristiano Ronaldo staying at Man Utd
Sooner or later, Manchester United will be looking for a new striker. Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is up in the air, with the Portugal international unlikely to stay at Old Trafford beyond next summer. And Harry Kane, who is poised to start for Tottenham against the Red Devils on Wednesday night, would certainly be a world-class replacement…
Ronaldo asked Manchester United to let him leave in the summer, having seen his 24 goals across all competitions fail to propel the Red Devils into the Champions League.
Yet despite links to Chelsea, Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund all arising at various stages, the veteran ended up staying put.
Ronaldo has struggled this season for United in the time since, netting just twice across all competitions.
And with the player struggling to win Erik ten Hag round, hence his substitution against Newcastle on Sunday, it’s looking increasingly likely he’ll be leaving as a free agent come the end of the season.
So Express Sport will now take a look at four options the board can target should Ronaldo go, with Kane among them.

Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo is a winger, something United don’t necessarily need at the current moment in time.
But the Netherlands international is also capable of playing down the middle and would offer rapidity and ruthlessness if deployed at the tip of Ten Hag’s attack.
Gakpo wanted to join United in the summer and there’s a sense that, if he shines at the World Cup, the Red Devils will reignite interest.
The 23-year-old has struck nine times in the Eredivisie from 10 outings, while also notching three times in the Champions League as well.
