England boss to make Terry decision
JOHN Terry has contacted England over the scandal that has engulfed his captaincy and will learn if he is to be stripped of the armband by the weekend.
Chelsea skipper Terry spoke to general manager Franco Baldini, Fabio Capello’s right-hand man, to explain his version of the alleged affair with England team-mate Wayne Bridge’s ex-girlfriend that has left his reign as skipper hanging in the balance.
The move came as Capello spoke with the FA board and was reassured that there will be no interference from bigwigs over whether he sticks with Terry or opts to appoint a new captain.
Capello is still in Switzerland, where he is recovering from knee surgery, and will not be back in the country until Thursday.
He will then head into talks with Baldini before speaking to both Terry and Manchester City left-back Bridge. Capello will make his decision before heading to Warsaw on Saturday for the Euro 2012 qualifying draw the following day.
There is a feeling among some FA board members that Terry should fall on his sword and relinquish the captaincy.
But a spokesman said: “Fabio spoke with our chairman, Lord Triesman, and chief executive, Ian Watmore, who both backed him to make the best decision for England on footballing grounds.
“Fabio is fully up to speed with developments regarding John Terry and is dealing with the matter in his own way, using his extensive experience.”
