Liverpool are facing stiff competition to sign highly-rated Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria, according to reports. Zakaria, 25, has attracted interest from some of world football’s biggest clubs after impressing in the Bundesliga following his €10million (£8.5m) move from Swiss side Young Boys in 2017.
The Switzerland international has little more than six months remaining on his current deal with the German side, meaning Zakaria will be able to negotiate a pre-contract with other clubs from next month onwards.
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are monitoring the defensive midfielder, but Jurgen Klopp’s side would be looking to sign Zakaria on a free transfer next summer, rather than attempt to push through a January deal.
Zakaria would arguably slot straight into Liverpool’s midfield alongside the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
But Liverpool are not alone in their pursuit of the defensive midfielder, with Romano also saying that the likes of Juventus, Bayern Munich and Roma are also interested in signing Zakaria.
