United's defence was all at sea with Naby Keita and Diogo Jota soon giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Mohamed Salah then grabbed two of his own before the break and completed his hat-trick moments after the restart.
Things went from bad to worse for United as Paul Pogba was sent off for a tough challenge on Keita.
Boos rang out at full time as the United players trudged off the pitch, while the Liverpool fans stayed to celebrate a historic win against their rivals.
Maguire came out of the United dressing room to address the media and gave no excuses for their poor display.
"It hurts," Maguire told the BBC.
"The boys are devastated, it is not good enough, nowhere near good enough.
"I am not here to analyse the game. It is not good enough. Our fans stuck with us throughout.
