Jermaine Beckford received a mixture of boos and cheers from Leeds fans
on what could prove to be his final appearance for the Elland road
club.
Beckford, who has fired 74 goals in 111 starts for the Yorkshire giants
since arriving from Wealdstone for £70,000 three years ago, has
officially said he wants to leave.
Newcastle is Beckford’s most likely destination but Leeds boss Simon
Grayson had no qualms about naming him in the starting line-up for what
proved to be a bitterly disappointing afternoon.
Homegrown midfielder Jonny Howson, whose fine pass helped to set up
Beckford’s winning goal at Manchester United last weekend, gave Leeds
the perfect start after just four minutes.
Howson collected possession and hit speculative shot from just outside the penalty box that flew into the bottom left corner.
Wycombe manager Gary Waddock could name only five substitutes but his
struggling outfit refused to be overawed and outplayed Leeds for
sustained periods.
The chairboys hit the woodwork twice in a four-minute spell, Scott
Davies’ drive thudding back into play and the same player’s corner
striking the far upright.
Wycombe finally equalised in the 63rd minute. davies played a long pass
to Jon-Paul Pittman, who cut in from the left to fire past Casper
Ankergren.
