Tottenham team news: Expected XI vs Chelsea amid fresh injury crisis
Tottenham will be the underdogs to come away with three points against their London rivals Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel previews Spurs v Chelsea
Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is facing something of a selection crisis ahead of his side's London derby against Chelsea on Sunday. Spurs will be desperate to get back to winning ways by beating their bitter rivals following their dismal 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend in the Premier League.
But their preparation for the clash has been far from ideal, with Nuno himself admitting that they had had a 'terrible' time of things with injuries.
Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn limped out of their Europa Conference League game against Rennes on Thursday, while Son Heung-min, Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and the three South American players who are quarantining in Croatia did not make the trip to France.
With all these issues in mind, Express Sport here look at Spurs' likely line-up for the game against the Blues...
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris
Lloris is almost certain to return to the starting XI after he was replaced by backup Pierluigi Gollini for the mid-week European action.
The Frenchman kept three clean sheets in a row in the league before last weekend's Palace disaster, and could be set for a busy afternoon on Sunday.
Defenders: Emerson Royal, Davinson Sanchez, Cristian Romero, Sergio Reguilon
With Dier still struggling with fitness issues, Spurs could turn to Sanchez and Romero as a centre-back pairing, with the duo finally able to feature again after completing their quarantine period. Joe Rodon is another possibility if one of them is deemed not yet fit enough to play.
New signing from Barcelona Royal had a difficult debut up against Wilfried Zaha last weekend at right-back, but with Matt Doherty still out of favour he should keep his place, while Reguilon is also unlikely to be dropped on the opposite flank.
Midfielders: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Tanguy Ndombele
How Spurs could do with a starring performance from Ndombele on Sunday.
The 24-year-old is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, but impressed in the game against Rennes and could well be handed a start vs Chelsea as Nuno looks for him to provide a bit of magic from the midfield.
Hojbjerg and Skipp will no doubt be tasked with keeping some of the Blues' more dangerous attacking threats quiet.
Forwards: Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Bryan Gil
If Son remains out injured, it could represent a brilliant opportunity for Gil to make his mark.
The Spanish U21 captain has showed flashes of brilliance in Europe but has played just two minutes in the league so far.
However, with Lucas and Bergwijn seemingly out Nuno will surely turn to the 20-year-old.
Kane, meanwhile, will look to improve on his quiet start to the campaign.
And Dele will hope to haunt Chelse again, with the 25-year-old having managed six goals and two assists in nine appearances against the Stamford Bridge outfit in his career.
