The father of Liverpool star Fabinho has sadly passed away, his wife Rebeca announced in an emotional Instagram story on Friday. Tributes and well wishes for the Brazil international have been pouring in from all around the world.
The father of Liverpool star Fabinho, Joao Roberto Tavares, has sadly passed way, his wife Rebeca has announced.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media since Rebeca shared Instagram of the news on Friday morning.
Fabinho's wife revealed the devastating message in a story with a picture of them together, along with a heart-warming message in Portuguese.
"Father-in-law, Remembering always with this smile and this passion for the things of the kingdom!!" she wrote on Instagram.
"I thank God for the privilege of having known him.
"Your grandchildren will know about the precious grandfather they had, I love you father-in-law."
Rebeca also shared a post on Twitter, confirming the sad news about Joao.
"For those who are asking on Instagram... Fabinho’s father has passed," she added.

Fabinho started on the bench as Liverpool beat Norwich 3-0 last Saturday thanks to goals from Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
The 27-year-old had been given some extra time off after helping Brazil reach the final of the Copa America before a 1-0 defeat to Argentina.
The Reds take on Burnley next, and it has not yet been confirmed whether or not Fabinho will be in action.
Earlier this month, Fabinho shared a picture on Instagram of himself with his father wearing his Champions League winners medal.
He wrote in the caption: "Happy Father's Day, Papa. Thanks for being an example for me.
"May God continue to bless you and use you. Love you."
