Arteta apologises to Arsenal fans after defeat at Brentford
Martin Odegaard has been handed a new shirt number at Arsenal after his £34million switch from Real Madrid was confirmed on Friday morning. The Norway international enjoyed a strong loan spell at the Gunners in the second half of last season.
Before him, Aaron Ramsey had held the No 8 shirt between 2016 and 2019.
But Arteta also holds a strong connection to the shirt number having worn the No 8 top during his five seasons playing at Arsenal.
Club legends of the past such as Freddie Ljungberg, Ian Wright and Ray Parlour have also made the No 8 shirt their own.
Arsenal will be hoping that Odegaard can make his own history as part of the club's future.
