Liverpool: The first six fixtures of the new Premier League season
Cristian Romero is one of the most sought-after defenders in the world, and Liverpool are apparently hopeful of beating Premier League rivals Manchester United to his signature.
Argentina international Romero impressed on loan at Atalanta from Juventus last season, and the Bergamo club are expected to take up an option to sign the 23-year-old permanently from Juve this summer.
However, with Romero attracting interest across Europe, the plan for Atalanta is to immediately flip the signing and make a big profit by selling him on, according to Spanish outlet AS.
The potential availability of the talented young defender has piqued the interest of Manchester United, who are looking to strengthen their defensive ranks this summer.
But Liverpool are also looking to add strength in numbers to their centre-back options in the hope of avoiding a repeat of last season’s injury crisis, and are said to be preparing a £43million bid.

Romero wouldn’t be the first exciting defensive signing to arrive at Anfield this summer, with the club already confirming the signing of talented youngster Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
“Right now, my focus is on the U21 European Championships with France, but after this competition I know I will be joining one of the best teams in the world and that gives me a great feeling,” Konate said in a statement released by Liverpool.
“I have worked very hard for many years to get to this point, but I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at RB Leipzig and all the people I worked with there – the coaches, my teammates, the staff and especially the fans.
“Your support helped me grow up during my time there and become not only a better player, but a better man and I will always be grateful for it.”
