Man Utd: Solskjaer urges team to use Europa pain to rebuild
Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has brutally trolled Manchester United and Gary Neville following the Red Devils’ loss to Villarreal in the Europa League final. United were defeated in the longest penalty shootout ever seen in a UEFA final, with David De Gea missing his crucial spot kick.
Despite naming an attacking-minded line-up, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men failed to break down their opponents, with United having just two shots on target across the 120 minutes.
In fact, it was Unai Emery’s underdogs who took the lead, with Gerard Moreno getting in front of Victor Lindelof to turn Dani Parejo’s free-kick past United keeper De Gea.
The goal seemed to hit United like a gut-punch, with Villarreal comfortable for the remaining 16 minutes of the first-half.
The Red Devils did improve slightly after the break, with Edinson Cavani equalising 10 minutes into the second period.

But though Villarreal barely had an attack of note thereafter, United could not convert their dominance of the ball into goals.
That led to the game going into extra-time, with the deadlock still not being broken after those 30 minutes.
With neither side able to find a way through, the game went to penalties, with the 10 outfielders of both teams putting on a penalty-taking masterclass.
De Gea and his opposite number Geronimo Rulli got close to a couple of them, but eventually they both had to take one.
