Thomas Tuchel admitted Timo Werner was 'angry' after failing to score as Chelsea drew 1-1 against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final. The tie is finely poised at 1-1 after Karim Benezema's spectacular strike cancelled out Christian Pulisic's opener - but Werner's struggles continued as he missed a glaring chance with Thibaut Courtois' goal at his mercy.
Chelsea dominated early on at the Stadio Alfredo di Stefano, and Werner wasted an opportunity to give his side the lead as he fired straight at Courtois from six yards out.
Pulisic made the breakthrough with what could prove to be a crucial away goal ahead of next week's second leg at Stamford Bridge - but after Benzema's equaliser, Chelsea were unable to add to their account despite continuing to be the better side.
Werner had gone into the game against Zinedine Zidane's side having scored the only goal in Saturday's Premier League win over West Ham.
But he was also guilty of missing a glorious chance to kill that game off, with his record remaining at two strikes in his last 23 league games.

After Tuesday's draw in Madrid, Tuchel admitted Werner was "angry" - but backed the German striker to "get his chin up" ahead of Stamford Bridge clashes against Fulham and Los Blancos.
"He missed a big one at West Ham and he missed a big one here but it is nothing to cry about," said the Chelsea boss.
"This is the best thing about sport, nobody cares tomorrow.
"He is maybe angry. Tomorrow he has a free day and then the day after, he needs to get his chin up."

Tuchel said the solution for Werner is "easy" - he simply needs to find his shooting boots on Saturday as Chelsea look to consolidate their top-four spot.
"We will never stop pushing or believing," said the manager. "I have the feeling everybody accepts the situation like this.
"Strikers, it is easy, you score the next game and nobody talks about it."
Tuchel admitted he was disappointed his side hadn't gone in ahead at the break in Madrid.
"I think we started the game very, very well," he told BT Sport.
