Tottenham: Ex-star Woodgate says trophies needed to keep Kane
Jamie Redknapp slammed two Tottenham players after Manchester City's late goal ended their silverware hopes in theCarabao Cup final at Wembley. Redknapp was joined by another former Spurs player Michael Dawson in slamming Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko following their respective roles in Aymeric Laporte's winner at Wembley.
City dominated Sunday's showdown, particularly in the first 45 minutes after they had Ryan Mason's pinned back in their own half for most of the opening period.
Spurs showed more desire in the second half, with Harry Kane carving out an excellent chance which was wasted by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon.
But hopes of a smash-and-grab victory were dashed when Laporte headed home from a Kevin de Bruyne free-kick in the 82nd minute, after Aurier had needlessly fouled Raheem Sterling.
Redknapp blasted the right-back's challenge as "ridiculous and rash", while he also slammed midfielder Sissoko for failing to stop Laporte scoring from the resultant set-piece.
“Aurier does well to start with, he follows the one-two and then just makes the most ridiculous and rash decision, that we see him do so often," said former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp, who was on punditry duty for Sky Sports.
"Just stand up, don’t dive in, don’t give the foul away - elementary mistake.
"Then you have a player who’s just come on as a sub - Sissoko - who is telling someone else what to do instead of doing his own job. He doesn’t see the run, his body position is wrong.”
Ex-Spurs defender Dawson also criticised both players, describing Aurier's foul as "criminal".

“Very disappointing," was Dawson's verdict on the goal.
"The free-kick from Aurier is criminal. Sterling is going nowhere so he gives Man City an opportunity.
"They haven’t been great at defending crosses all season.
"Sissoko then gets caught square on, as soon as he does, Laporte has one step, gets in front of him because he doesn’t see and puts it into the bottom corner.”
Sunday's Carabao Cup final was Tottenham's last remaining hope of ending their 13-year silverware wait - while the weekend's Premier League results left Ryan Mason's men five points off the Champions League places going into the final five rounds of fixtures.
