Liverpool are poised to sign Ibrahima Konate. The defender is on the verge of moving to Anfield from RB Leipzig, with a deal set to be finalised in the summer transfer window. So Express Sport will now take a look at four squad numbers he could wear on Merseyside once his move is officially rubber-stamped.
The No 5 shirt is currently occupied by Georginio Wijnaldum at Liverpool, with the Dutchman a huge hit ever since his arrival from Newcastle in 2016.
However, the midfielder’s time at the club is nearly over.
Wijnaldum is expected to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window, although the Catalan giants have denied reaching a pre-agreement with the Reds bulldozer.
So, if he leaves, Konate could take the No 5 jersey.
He wears No 6 at RB Leipzig but that shirt is currently occupied by Thiago Alcantara over on Merseyside.

Number 22
Let’s face it, Loris Karius doesn’t have a future at Liverpool.
He’s currently out on loan and, even if he keeps a clean sheet between now and the end of the campaign, his time is up.
And, when he leaves, the No 22 will become vacant.
It’s not a particularly special number, admittedly. Yet Konate may be forced into taking it regardless.
So what jersey he ultimately wears remains to be seen.

Falk’s comments on Konate
Earlier in the season, before Dayot Upamecano’s move to Bayern Munich was struck, BILD journalist Christian Falk claimed Konate as being eyed by Liverpool.
“Upamecano is at the top of the list of many top clubs and of course that includes Liverpool,” he told Bild.
“Bayern Munich are also an option, but it’s going to be hard to go that way, so they look at other players.
“They do not even look that far, just to the side of Upmecano at his teammate (Konate).
“They (Liverpool) have become aware of the value of his contract, which runs until 2023, and he would be financially affordable for Liverpool.
“He is also very, very interesting in terms of playing style, which is similar, so they could be one of the teams to take him to the island.”
