Manchester United legend Gary Neville still believes "there is something not right" at his former club despite them moving up to third in the Premier League table. United beat old rivals Leeds United 6-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday to go within five points of leaders Liverpool with a game in hand. Braces from Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes, and a goal each from Victor Lindelof and Daniel James, sealed an emphatic win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
It is some turnaround from United, who crashed out of the Champions League earlier this month and had won just one of their opening five home Premier League games of the campaign.
Neville is shocked at where United find themselves heading into Christmas but says there are still problems despite their lofty league position.
"Their form's really good, they're scoring goals, they're coming back in matches," Neville said on the Gary Neville Podcast.
"Today they've played well [against Leeds], big game against Leicester on Boxing Day but there's something not right.
"But when you look at where they are in the league and they can go two points behind Liverpool, if you'd have said at the start of the season they would be in the position to go two points behind Liverpool with a game in hand coming into Christmas, you would have absolutely snapped everyone's hand off.
"Everyone thought [Manchester] City and Liverpool were way ahead and for Manchester United it was just about potentially trying to close the gap.
"But no-one ever thought they would be in a position to be so close."
Neville still doesn't see United as title winners but is pleasantly surprised by recent form.

He added: "They're going to end up in second in the league if they can win that game in hand, and it doesn't feel like Manchester United have played like that.
"There's been talk of the manager's job, obviously going out of Europe was a big problem, the performances at times have been horrible, the first half of some games have been terrible.
"You just watch them and think there isn't a team there that can emerge and challenge for the title and my gut feeling is still to say that.
"I don't think I'm sat here feeling that Manchester United are going to win the league but what I am is surprised, it's bizarre where they are considering that probably a couple of weeks ago you were thinking 'this could be difficult, this could be a challenging period coming into Christmas'.
