Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes gave hilarious reaction to Solskjaer PSG captaincy decision

The shock was written all over the face of Bruno Fernandes after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer announced he would captain Manchester United against PSG on Tuesday night in this evening's press conference. The Portuguese international is set to lead the Red Devils out at the Parc des Princes on their return to the Champions League.

United have not played in the competition since March 2019, when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Barcelona.

However, the competition brings back special memories for United when PSG are concerned particularly under Solskjaer.

He oversaw one of United's most famous European nights in Paris as his side overturned a 2-0 deficit on aggregate to win 3-1 and go through on away goals.

Marcus Rashford hit the winner from the spot that night deep into injury time and now United will be looking to use those memories as inspiration.

They will be without captain Harry Maguire though, who has stayed at home following a minor muscle tear.

He will be assessed ahead of Saturday's clash with Chelsea but medics are optimistic he will be fit.

In his absence, Solskjaer confirmed today that Fernandes will captain the side.

"The captain sits next to me. Bruno will captain the team tomorrow," declared Solskjaer in his press conference.

"Bruno has definitely come in and had a great positive impact. The stats show that and his performances have been receiving great praise as well.

"He has come in and if not changed the team he’s sparked something in the team and I hope we've sparked something in his career. That was a turning point in our season last season and we hope from more to come."

Fernandes was shocked at the announcement and his facial expression was captured perfectly on the video call.

"I was not expecting this," he conceded, before expressing his delight. "I found out this the same time as you!

"It is an honour and an important achievement for me. The captain is everyone – everyone needs to help, be a leader in their way.

"I think I’m playing well in the last few months but I have to improve and do better.

"I think I can do much better than before. I know my numbers are good but I’m sure I will do better numbers and games than before."

This is the first of three Champions League matches for United in as many weeks.

They also take on RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir in between Premier League fixtures with Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.
