Declan Rice transferring to Chelsea 'makes sense' says pundit
Chelsea still reportedly hold a strong interest in signing Declan Rice this summer transfer window and Gareth Southgate gave Frank Lampard the perfect opportunity to see their top target in action as a the holding midfielder in England's Nations League game against Iceland on Saturday. Chelsea have been the busiest side in the transfer market this summer having signed six new players.
The 21-year-old has established himself as one of England's most promising young players ever since breaking into West Ham's first team.
He has also proven his versatility in being able to drop back into central defence when called upon.
But speaking back in February 2019, Rice made it clear that his preferred role was to play in that holding midfield role.
And Chelsea got the perfect opportunity to scout Rice as the midfield anchor in England's Nations League tie against Iceland.

The West Ham star started well in slowing down any counter-attacking threat posed by Iceland on a number of occasions.
And he maintained that strong presence throughout the game, helping England keep a clean sheet in their Nations League opener.
West Ham have made it clear they want to keep Rice and it would take a huge bid for them to consider selling the midfielder.
But the Hammer have already indicated that they're willing to sell for the right price having seen Grady Diangana leave to join West Brom for £18m.
Chelsea are reportedly focussed more on signing a new goalkeeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga but Rice's performance for England will undoubtedly not go unnoticed by those at Stamford Bridge.
