Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho admitted Steven Bergwijn was not his first option in the January transfer window but insists it was still a "great decision" to sign him. Bergwijn has impressed during his short stint at Spurs as he has proven to be a reliable pick in the starting line-up with three goals in eight appearances.
Mourinho is grateful that the club insisted on signing the winger six months ago as he is a player with a promising future that has satisfied everyone with his performances.
The Netherlands international scored the north Londoners' opener on Friday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is expected to play on Tuesday's home game against West Ham.

Mourinho said ahead of the match: “He’s a good player. Congratulations to my club because initially he wasn’t my first option – in the end it was a great decision.

“He’s a player with a bright future and we are more than happy."
Mourinho is all smiles ahead of the clash with the Hammers as he will have all of his attacking players available for selection.

Lucas Moura has returned from a knock he suffered during training after fellow forwards Harry Kane and Son Heung-min came back from a hamstring and arm injury respectively last week.
Dele Alli has also served his one-match ban and could feature in Mourinho's line-up against David Moyes' side.
Alli was fined by the Football Association after sharing a video in which he appeared to mock a man of Asian appearance in an airport during the coronavirus crisis.
Mourinho added: “It’s only good news [on the injury front]. Lucas is back. Dele Alli is back from punishment and no injuries were reported in the game against United.
"We didn’t lose any players and we have two extra players who make my squad really good. It’s the first time since I arrived that I have all six attacking players available.
“It’s a problem that we love. The problem that we hate I had for a long time. It’s very good news for us because we need everybody.”
Tottenham are eighth in the Premier League table with nine points separating them from fourth-placed Chelsea.
