Newcastle: Sean Longstaff says Man Utd match was 'unbelievable'
Newcastle United's incoming new owners must pen midfielder Matty Longstaff down to a new contract when the takeover is complete, says former Magpies striker Shola Ameobi. Longstaff, 20, burst onto the scene earlier this season, immediately becoming a fan favourite after scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Manchester United on his Premier League debut.
However, Longstaff's current contract at St James' Park is set to expire at the end of June and the club are yet to come to an agreement over an extension.
Current Newcastle owner Mike Ashley last month agreed to sell the club for £300million to the Saudi Arabian-backed PCP Capital Partners.
Ameobi says it is important for his former side to keep the likes of Longstaff and says getting the midfielder to sign a new contract must be a priority for the new owners.
"I think new owners coming in, the advice I guess would be looking into what Newcastle is about, what the fans want," Ameobi said on Sky Sports' The Football Show.

"I think the one thing over the last six weeks while we’ve been on furlough, there’s not really been any communication, we’re not allowed to do our day to day job, so communication hasn’t been there.

"Mike likes to do things discreetly and in his own way, and as employees we don’t get to know any of that, so we’re the same as you guys, just waiting and seeing what comes."
