Premier League: Pundits on 'changing opinions' of ending season
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes supporters of his old club should not worry despite the Dutch Eredivisie cancelling its season. The Eredivisie became the first major league in Europe to cancel their season and declare there would be no champions or relegation. Ajax were top of the Dutch top flight but only on goal difference when football was suspended due to the coronavirus.
If the Premier League were to make the same decision, that would prevent Liverpool winning their first title since 1990.
Jurgen Klopp's side were 25 point clear at the top, needing a maximum of six points from their remaining nine matches to secure the holy grail to Reds supporters.
Thompson understands why Dutch fans are upset at the decision but reckons the finances behind the Premier League mean the authorities will find a way to end the campaign.
"The fans are going absolutely crazy - 'Why does it have to finish? Why are they setting a precedent by finishing?'," Thompson told Sky Sports News.

"I think maybe the Belgians did that first, but they're wondering why they had to do it and move quickly. So there is a little bit of upset.
"This league is possibly a little bit different.
"Ajax are just top by goal difference, you know then it could change within a couple of games. Ours is maybe cut and dry at the top.
"There is so much at stake in the Premier League, with the finances for the teams and whoever is going to play in Europe, which teams will do, the relegation situation. It's a massive amount of money.

"No disrespect to the Dutch league but it is not as competitive, anywhere near, financially as the Premier League."
Meanwhile, Thompson has revealed two additions he wants Liverpool to make in the next transfer window.
"I think we do need a back-up for Andy Robertson. He does play a lot of games," Thompson added.
"Neco Williams, at right-back, I do see him being able to cover for Trent [Alexander-Arnold], but I think at left-back - [Yasser] Larouci, the young lad we have is a really good player, but I think we need someone a bit more experienced.
