Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not need to take a “swipe” at previous boss Jose Mourinho, claims former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop. Earlier this week, Solskjaer claimed “a lot needed to be changed” when he replaced Mourinho at Old Trafford. The Norwegian was initially appointed interim manager in December 2018 before being getting the job permanently in March 2019.
After a mixed start to this season, United are currently on a run of 11 matches in all competitions.
Hislop believes Solskjaer’s comments are for him covering his own back amid doubt over his own future at the club.
But the pundit does not think the Norwegian had to take a sly dig at Mourinho in the process.
Hislop told ESPN FC: “I think it’s reflective of the form that Manchester United have found themselves in, the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s going to use this form and this kind of run as a foundation for why he should stay on as manager.
