All just gold for Terry
JOHN TERRY has put pen to paper on a contract that makes him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
Chelsea and England skipper Terry, who had been courted by Manchester City, has signed a £160,000-a-week deal that keeps him at Stamford Bridge for another five years and is worth £42 million.
Terry, 28, has also had a clause put into the deal that he will be considered as a candidate to take over as the new Chelsea manager should the position become vacant during that time.
Owner Roman Abramovich personally sanctioned the record-busting deal, which was signed yesterday.
City offered about £10m a year but Terry is staying in west London. His contract puts him ahead of team-mate Frank Lampard, who is on about £150,000 a week.
Andriy Shevchenko scored on his return to Dynamo Kiev last night in the 3-1 victory against Metalurg Donetsk.
Shevchenko, 32, back on duty for Dynamo 10 years after leaving to join AC Milan and days after his move from Chelsea, made sure of victory with a last-minute penalty.
Shevchenko said: “I am grateful to Roman Abramovich for agreeing to cancel my contract to allow me to return home.”
His time was up at Stamford Bridge when manager Carlo Ancelotti told him bluntly he had virtually no hope of a first-team place.
