Man Utd: Pundits discuss Josh King and Odion Ighalo
Manchester United chief Ed Woodward left Josh King unhappy when he failed to submit an improved offer for the Bournemouth striker on transfer deadline day, according to reports. The Cherries hitman was wanted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the club ended up signing Odion Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua instead.
Manchester United went for King on transfer deadline day, with Solskjaer telling Woodward he wanted a new striker through the door.
The club had initially hoped to bolster their attack by signing Erling Haaland but, though the 19-year-old gave Solskjaer his word on a move to Old Trafford, the teenager ended up moving to Borussia Dortmund instead.
United then went to Bournemouth with two offers, the second of which was worth £25million, in the hope of landing King on deadline day.
The Norway international thought a deal that would see him return to the club, who he represented at youth level, would be struck.
But The Athletic say King was left devastated when United didn’t submit a new bid after their second offer was rejected.
