Man United: Solskjaer discusses Bruno Fernandes transfer
Sporting Lisbon have said their president Frederico Varandas is in England “for professional reasons” as several reports in Portugal claim the club’s chiefs are in Manchester United offices to negotiate the transfer of Bruno Fernandes.
Hours after Solskjaer’s public acknowledgment of Fernandes, widespread reports in Portugal emerged claiming that Sporting president Frederico Varandas and sporting director Hugo Viana had flown to England for talks over Fernandes at United’s offices.
Lisbon publication Expresso Tribuna was one of those outlets and also reported a comment from Sporting over the reports.
A club source is said to have told them: “The president is out for professional reasons.”
Sporting are believed to want £59.7million (€70m) for Fernandes - the same figure which they held out for in the summer.
The playmaker was close to joining Tottenham but the north London club refused to meet the Portuguese side’s valuation.
Fernandes garnered interest after scoring 32 goals in all competitions last season and has showed that was no fluke this season.
The 25-year-old, who can play as a No 8 or No 10, has scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 24 games across the board in 2019/20.
Sporting manager Silas said he is bracing himself for the departure of Fernandes this transfer window.
