Granit Xhaka would impress at Liverpool
Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has tipped Granit Xhaka to hold his own in Jurgen Klopp's midfield.
The Swiss ace has come under fire this year because of Arsenal’s struggling form.
“If Xhaka was in Liverpool’s side with [Jordan] Henderson and Fabinho, he would look a hell of a player because he is technically good, a good passer," Murphy told talkSPORT.
“He has a great shot on him and he has the ability with his great left foot to open you up.
“But when you are playing in a team that is struggling a bit, he is a passenger defensively and a liability.
“It is a dilemma for Mikel Arteta because he has a squad that needs a bit of tinkering.”
Brendan Rodgers on Harry Wilson transfer
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has spoken on links to Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson.
"We want to add to squad if we can," Rodgers told Sky Sports News.
"It all comes down to availability. We’ve got a really strong squad and lots of them are young players evolving. We want to but if we can’t we’ll continue with the squad we’ve got and look to reinforce in the summer.
"I know Harry [Wilson] very well. He’s a fantastic talent. I don’t speculate or gossip on other players, especially other players from other teams."
Isaac Christie-Davies leaves on loan
Liverpool youngster Isaac Christie-Davies has joined Cercle Brugge on loan until the end of the season.
Liverpool have announced that Isaac Christie-Davies has joined Cercle Brugge on loan for the remainder of the current season.
The 22-year-old will test himself in the Belgium Pro League after terms were agreed with the Reds.
Christie-Davies will join his new team-mates at a training camp in Malta.
No Kylian Mbappe or Jadon Sancho
Liverpool fans’ hopes of high-profile summer moves for Jadon Sancho and Kylian Mbappe have been rubbished, with the Reds’ current transfer focus said to be on players who are less developed.
The Reds have been tipped to make a marquee addition in 2020, with Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho and Paris Saint Germain forward Mbappe both mooted among the club’s excited fanbase.
“I don’t think a move for Sancho to Liverpool is going to materialise,” David Ornstein said on The Ornstein and Chapman Podcast.
“That could be a club for all we know that he would consider. Well, we do know he would consider it, we’ve reported that before.
“But I don’t think Liverpool are going to pursue that one, ultimately. He would come at a level of expense that at this point in time, we’re talking the summer, Liverpool would be looking to pay.
“They’ve also been heavily linked with Kylian Mbappe, and the same rule applies.
“I don’t think Liverpool, while they’ve got their attacking options that they have now, would be looking to spend that level of finance on a player who is not guaranteed to come into the starting line-up.
“They don’t think that that type of player will be willing to accept that anyway.
“At this moment in time, despite them having the resource technically and we know they’re looking to make game-changing signs as and when they need them as they did with Alisson and Virgil van Dijk, and they’ll continue to look to do so in the future.
“At this moment in time they’re looking for more Minamino-type signings, as I’m told.
"Players who are hungry, developing, may have a point to prove, are ready to come in and fight for their place, they understand that they’re not necessarily a guaranteed first pick.
“That’s the way that Liverpool are looking to take things in the immediate term. That would say that Sancho is not going to be on the agenda for them for now.”
Liverpool told to keep Georginio Wijnaldum
Georginio Wijnaldum would be a “massive loss” for Liverpool if they’re unable to tie him down to a new contract, according to former Leeds and Coventry star Noel Whelan.
Wijnaldum has just 18 months left on his contract with Liverpool and it was suggested earlier this week the club may consider offers this summer.
“I would be shocked as he has massively improved and is a key figure at the club,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s one of the first names on the teamsheet, he’s scoring, he’s creating, his energy levels, that passion in midfield so he’ll be missed.
“Unless they’ve got someone lined up…he’ll be a huge loss as you want to have a squad of players who can cope with the demands of Premier League and European football.
“He’ll be a massive loss to Liverpool but you have got to trust their policies as well as the people in the background making these decisions.
“So you know it doesn’t say his contract talks can’t be sorted out.”
