Arsenal: Max Allegri should replace Unai Emery says Nicol
Massimiliano Allegri is concerned about Arsenal’s quality within the squad and would rather wait until the end of the season to return to action. Arsenal remain very keen on bringing Allegri in after sacking Unai Emery as they believe his experience and track record would take them out of their current slump.
According to The Athletic, however, the Italian boss doesn’t appear to be too keen on working with the Gunners’ current squad as he finds that they lack quality and that is why he would prefer to wait for the summer before coming back to the dugout.
Allegri decided to take some time off from coaching last summer and that is why he left Juventus after a stunning five-year stint in Turin.
The 52-year-old won five successive Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies with Juve and led the Italian giants to two Champions League finals in 2015 and 2017 where he lost to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
His success with the Vecchia Signora as well as AC Milan beforehand have made him a high commodity among Europe’s biggest hitters ever since he took a sabbatical.
Manchester United had been linked with Allegri after manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer found himself under fire.
Tottenham were also said to be interested in the Livorno-born coach after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.
But Solskjaer has turned a corner at United and Spurs have replaced Pochettino with Jose Mourinho, which gives Arsenal a significant advantage.

The Gunners have appointed assistant manager Freddie Ljungberg as interim head coach but are said to be rigorously looking for a permanent boss.
The likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Patrick Vieira, Mikel Arteta, Nuno Espirito Santo and Brendan Rodgers have also been linked with the Emirates hotseat.
But the club is said to considering Ljungberg as a genuine contender to take over the role on a permanent basis as well and will offer him the job if he puts together a sufficient turnaround in the team’s fortunes.
