Outlander fans ‘can’t bear to watch’ as devastating moment leads to multiple brutal deaths

Outlander fans have been catching up on the historical drama ahead of the show's return this November, and some of them found a pivotal moment almost impossible to watch.

Outlander fans may have landed on the single most devastating moment of the entire drama.

The hit Starz series follows WWII nurse Claire Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe), who’s whisked back in time to 18th Century Scotland where she meets Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Although he’s fighting for the Jacobite cause, Claire knows the Scottish forces are defeated by the British and tries everything to prevent the uprising.

However, the ill-fated Battle of Culloden does eventually come to pass in season three. While Jamie avoids a tragic fate, countless Scotsmen lose their lives.

One fan took to Reddit after witnessing one of the most brutal stretches of the Diana Gabaldon-inspired drama.

“I've seen up through season 7, but am watching older seasons, lately,” they wrote.

“I can't bear to watch the men get closer and closer to the battle of Culloden. Anyone else?

“Even seeing them suffer, and be bedraggled, away from home and family, subsisting on greens, marching themselves tired and ragged, only to wind up being picked off like ducks in a barrel.”

The fan went on to admit, “I am way too invested in the episodes or characters, I guess. The men are all so brave and the writing and acting make them all too human.”

However, many other fans shared the sentiment, agreeing these episodes were some of the toughest watches in Outlander history.

“I'm with you,” replied another dedicated viewer. “Late s2 through start of s3 is just heartbreaking.”

Picking up on an ingenious detail, they added: “They were really clever with the music for that bit of the show, as well, using quite a few Jacobite songs and I forget which episode it is, but the slow pibroch. It always makes me cry.

“Honestly I think it's where the show was strongest, the doomed rebellion. It's tragic.”

And another viewer even confessed: “I tend to skip the battle of Culloden. I cry too much prior to that.”

While some Outlander enthusiasts may enjoy the show better if they fast-forward over the show’s biggest tragedies, they won’t want to miss the upcoming conclusion to season seven.

Plus, fans also have the highly-anticipated prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, to look forward to, which will explore the origins of how Claire and Jamie’s parents first met.

Outlander season 7, part 2 premieres Friday, November 22 on Starz.
