And, on Monday Night Football, Neville looked back at footage of the match and once again hit out at the attackers.
He said the work rate of Martial, Rashford and James was notably less than that of the equivalent players at City and Liverpool, and that the first 70 minutes against Sheffield United was not acceptable.
“What disappointed me most, and I kept mentioning it during the game, particularly looking at [Lys] Mousset and [David] McGoldrick at the other end, was the lack of penetration, the lack of runs with and without the ball of the front three,” Gary Neville said.
“I felt they could have done a lot more for the team.

“The reason I’m so unforgiving of them is, they’ve got so much talent, but there are two front threes in this league from the top two clubs, Manchester City and Liverpool, that are absolutely outstanding and they’re at it every single game.
“They fight for the ball, they fight without the ball.
“And those three, James, Martial, Rashford, [Mason] Greenwood coming on as well towards the end, I can only come to the conclusion, they’re not bad lads and we know they’ve got talent because they proved it in that last 20 minutes, but there’s something fundamentally wrong there in that first 70 minutes of that game.
“That cannot happen at that club.”
