Barca had already forked out £107million on Antoine Griezmann before the possibility of signing Neymar arose, and therefore didn’t want to pay big money for the Brazilian.
They made numerous player exchange bids, all of which were turned down by the Parisians.
Instead, he was forced to stay in Paris, and was jeered by his own fans during the opening of the season.
However, Spanish publication Sport claims Neymar is still determined to get a move to Barca next summer, and as a result has turned down a contract extension at PSG.

The report, on the front page of Monday’s SPORT, writes: “Barca keep the folder of the signing of the Brazilian on the table to activate it for next summer.
“Ney continues to take steps to finish azulgrana [sic] by giving pumpkins [sic] to the PSG to the offer to renew his contract until 2025.”
On Sunday, Barcelona director Eric Abidal expressed that the Spanish giants remain interested in bringing back the forward who scored 105 goals in 186 games during his time in Catalonia.
He told Mundo Deportivo that Neymar will always be “a clear option”.

”A top player, who has a Barca philosophy and who is performing at a high level, will always be an option,” said Abidal.
"From there, at the sports level we can make decisions, but the whole financial issue, there are things that you can reach and others that you cannot.
"The future will say. If it continues at this level, because the season is very long, I will not say that it will be option number one but it can be a clear option."
