Manchester United chief Ed Woodward will only sign players for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the January transfer window should long-term targets become available, reports say.
The Red Devils’ need for reinforcements has grown following their nightmare start to the Premier League season.
Manchester United have won just three of their opening 11 matches and currently sit 10th in the table, behind the likes of Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Bournemouth.
Fans are hoping the upcoming transfer window will see their club spend.

But other players haven’t fared so well.
Dong Fangzhuo and Zoran Tosic both toiled at Old Trafford when they signed under Ferguson’s watch.
And Alexis Sanchez was a horrendous flop, scoring just five goals before joining Inter Milan back in the summer on loan.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer hinted after the Bournemouth defeat that he’d have to work with what he has until the end of the season.
“To win games you need to score goals and I’m sure Anthony and Marcus are going to get their share of goals,” said Solskjaer.
“Anthony’s just gonna improve but we need more creativity.
“But we’ve got loads of players here in the squad who could create more, it’s not just look outside, we have to do with what we have.
“We’re looking for some creativity and goals, but they [potential signings] have to be the right one.
“There were strikers available [in the summer] but not the ones we wanted. We couldn’t get the one we wanted.”
United boss Solskjaer will be hoping to ease the pressure on himself when his side go up against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday (8pm).
