Salah spent the course of the international break at Melwood working on his rehabilitation.
The Liverpool medical team created a tailor made schedule designed to ensure Salah was fit for today’s clash, but he has fallen just short with his recovery.
Divock Origi takes his place in the front three, meaning the is an extra reliance on Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in attack.
Jurgen Klopp claimed in his interview with Sky Sports’ Geoff Shreeves that he didn’t know where it came from that Salah would play.
The German confirmed there is a chance he makes the squad for Wednesday’s clash with Genk in the Champions League.
It comes as no surprise to Klopp that Salah sits out of the contest.
“Mo was not ready, that’s how it is. He couldn’t train with the team; I don’t know where it came from that everybody said he will play. There was pretty much no chance for today, maybe for Wednesday, we have to see," he told Sky Sports.

There is positive news for the Reds though as Alisson returns between the sticks.
He replaces Adrian, who has helped Liverpool win eight Premier League matches from eight in the meantime.
Unlike Salah, the Brazilian has been in full training with his team mates ahead of the contest.
Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson all come back into the Liverpool team, there are four changed in total from the 2-1 win over Leicester.

Klopp did call one thing correct, he claimed during his press conference that he had a feeling De Gea would be fit for the clash.
He said on Friday: “Yesterday no chance for De Gea and Pogba.
“Today it’s a maybe. Tomorrow it’s a chance.”
The Spaniard starts in goal while Pogba is not part of the squad.
