Arsenal injury update: Latest news on 11 players after international break
The Gunners return to Premier League action on Monday night following the conclusion of the international break.
Arsenal vs Sheffield United: Chris Wilder previews match
Arsenal resume their pursuit of a place in the top four on Monday night with a trip to Yorkshire.
The north Londoners will travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United, last season’s Championship runners-up.
Several Gunners were away on international duty during the break and could be rested for the trip to Sheffield.
Here’s an in-depth look at the Arsenal squad following the latest round of international fixtures.
Goalkeepers
Bernd Leno
Was called up for Germany’s matches against Argentina and Estonia but didn’t play a single minute.
He should start between the sticks on Monday night.
Matt Macey
Has yet to feature in the matchday squad but is available for selection.
Emiliano Martinez
Was called up for Argentina’s games against Germany and Ecuador but played in neither match.

Defenders
Callum Chambers
Chambers was one of several players not be selected by their respective countries for the latest round of fixtures, so he’ll be available for selection.
David Luiz
Was in Rwanda fulfilling his obligations as a club ambassador but should be in contention to start against the Blades.
Konstantinos Mavropanos
Not called up by Greece for this round of fixtures but will be in line to make the matchday squad.
Sead Kolasinac
Played the full 90 minutes in Bosnia’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Finland and Greece. He should start in Yorkshire unless Emery decides to give him a rest.
Hector Bellerin
Still in the final stages of recovery from a serious knee injury but will be in contention to start at right-back.
Kieran Tierney
Opted not to join up with the Scotland squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Russia and San Marino in order to focus on attaining full fitness. Could potentially make his full debut against the Blades.
Sokratis
Was omitted from Greece’s squad for their latest round of fixtures. So he’ll no doubt start at the heart of the Gunners’ defence.
Rob Holding
In contention to start following his return to full fitness.
Shkodran Mustafi
Unlikely to start as he’s fallen way down the pecking order following Luiz’s arrival.
Midfielders
Matteo Guendouzi
Played in both of the French Under-21s’ matches against Azerbaijan and Slovakia. So he could very well end up being rested.
Emile Smith Rowe
Will be in contention to start following a spell on the sidelines after a nasty clash of heads in the Gunners’ Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.
Granit Xhaka
Played the full 90 minutes in Switzerland’s qualifiers against Denmark and the Republic of Ireland but will likely start in the heart of the Gunners’ midfield.
Dani Ceballos
Appeared to suffer a minor hamstring injury in Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Denmark but recovered to play the full 90 minutes against Sweden.
Given the potential tightness of his hamstring, he could be rested on Monday.
Mesut Ozil
No international duty for the retired Germany midfielder, who will be hoping for a rare start on Monday.
Lucas Torreira
Played in the first of Uruguay’s double-header against Peru and will likely be available for selection.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles
No international football for the midfielder, who will likely be dropped to the bench should Bellerin start at right-back.
Joe Willock
Played 75 minutes in the England Under-21s’ 5-1 demolition of Austria and will be chomping at the bit to get another start.
Forwards
Reiss Nelson
Pulled out of the England Under-21 squad with a knee injury, which is expected to keep him on the sidelines for the next five weeks.
Gabriel Martinelli
Has yet to declare his international allegiance, with both Brazil and Italy eager to acquire his services. Will likely be named on the substitutes’ bench.
Alexandre Lacazette
Has returned to full training following his recovery from an ankle injury. Is unlikely to lead the line, though, due to his recent lack of game time.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Played in Gabon’s 3-2 win over Morocco and will likely spearhead the Gunners’ attack.
Nicolas Pepe
Found the back of the net in the Ivory Coast’s 3-1 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday. He should be fit to play a part in Monday’s match.
Bukayo Saka
Played in both of the England Under 19s’ matches against Belgium and Spain and will be in contention for a place on the wing.
Predicted Arsenal starting XI against Sheffield United: Leno; Chambers, Sokratis, Luiz, Tierney; Ceballos; Xhaka, Guendouzi; Pepe, Aubameyang, Saka
