England team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Czech Republic – Mount, Maddison or Barkley?
England manager Gareth Southgate has a number of key selection decisions to make when the Three Lions continue their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign against Czech Republic on Friday (7.45pm BST).
England: Alexander-Arnold tells team to ‘embrace’ Euro 2020
England will look to continue their perfect start to Euro 2020 qualifying when they face Czech Republic at Sinobo Stadium in Prague.
The Three Lions have recorded four wins from four in Group A, scoring 19 goals and conceding on just four occasions, although they were given a scare against Kosovo last time out.
Manager Gareth Southgate will have been pleased with his side’s attacking threat in the 5-3 victory at Wembley but a shaky defence is cause for concern.
The second centre-back spot alongside Harry Maguire is still up for grabs, with current incumbent Michael Keane having failed to consistently impress for Everton so far this season.
And Joe Gomez has struggled for game time at Liverpool so Southgate could be tempted to start Tyrone Mings or Fikayo Tomori alongside Maguire.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Chilwell are most likely to occupy the full-back spots with Kyle Walker left out again, although Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose offer viable alternatives.
Jordan Pickford will line up between the posts but reserve goalkeeper Tom Heaton has pulled out due to injury, meaning Sheffield United stopper Dean Henderson has earned his first call-up.
Declan Rice is most likely to anchor the midfield, particularly after Fabian Delph’s withdrawal, while Jordan Henderson should also start over Harry Winks.
There is plenty of competition for the final spot in the midfield trio with Mason Mount and James Maddison both in contention to replace Ross Barkley.
The pair have an excellent chance to stake their claims long-term with Dele Alli, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jesse Lingard all overlooked by Southgate in the current squad.
Further forward, England appear to have settled on a preferred attacking unit of Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.
However, the domestic form of Tammy Abraham provides Southgate with a tempting alternative while Marcus Rashford and Callum Wilson are also available off the bench.
