Frank Leboeuf claims Jesse Lingard injury is positive for Man Utd - ‘Very good news’
Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is set to miss a couple of weeks of action due to a hamstring injury.
Man Utd: Jesse Lingard injury is 'good news' says Leboeuf
Jesse Lingard’s injury is the only positive to come out of Manchester United’s draw with AZ Alkmaar, claims former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf.
Lingard hobbled off late on in United’s Europa League clash at AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night.
The midfielder has struggled in recent months and has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad for the Euro qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
Lingard has not scored a goal or provided an assist in the Premier League since last December.
Lingard getting injured, which is also very good news
And Leboeuf has brutally claimed his absence will be “very good news” for United.
“I didn’t see anything from Manchester United [against Alkmaar],” Leboeuf told ESPN FC.
“Yes, Lingard getting injured, which is also very good news. But otherwise, except the goalkeeper, nothing, nothing.”
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed he was pleased United came away with a point from the goalless draw in Holland.
But Leboeuf says it shows how far United have fallen that a point at Alkmaar is deemed a good result.
“I think [Solskjaer] must be the only one on Earth to be pleased with that game,” the Frenchman continued.
“I think Alkmaar played well. I think Alkmaar showed us that they were the best team.
“When you’re the culture of Manchester United I think you have to expect more from your guys, even if you have a B team because you picked them.
“You have talent in the team but you have no change of pace, no change of rhythm, no ideas on the field.
“I saw Alkmaar, very good, very talented players in the midfield zone, I saw thoughts about football where I didn’t see anything from Manchester United.
“I feel so frustrated when I see Manchester United from the past years because it’s not the Manchester United that I used to watch when I was young and I used to play against, when they were so successful.”
