Trent Alexander-Arnold looked to have claimed the opener, when his cross went in off the back of Chris Wood.
The Premier League tweeted just before half-time: “After review, #PL Match Centre has confirmed the goal as a Chris Wood OG after Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross was deflected in.”
Further goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino ensured Liverpool made it 13 league wins in a row for the first time in their history.
But Jurgen Klopp was left surprised at the news the opener didn’t go down as Alexander-Arnold’s goal.
