After guiding Chelsea to a Europa League title and a third-placed finish in the Premier League, Sarri left Stamford Bridge having spent just a year at the club.
The Italian wanted to return to Italy, having left Napoli to take the Chelsea job a year earlier.
But according to Bonetti, Sarri wasn’t a popular figure behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge, and could struggle to get on with Cristiano Ronaldo at the Allianz Stadium.
“There are plenty of question marks around Maurizio Sarri,” he said on ESPN FC.

“Apparently behind the scenes at Chelsea he wasn’t the most liked man.
“I can’t imagine at all a world where Cristiano Ronaldo is managed by Maurizio Sarri.
“It’s still bizarre, Sarri smokes cigarettes near the touchline, can you imagine Ronaldo smelling those fumes as he’s working on his perfect physique? Come on.”
Instead, Bonetti suggested that it could be a different ex-Chelsea boss who takes the Serie A crown this year.

The ESPN pundit declared that Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan side will have enough to challenge for Juventus’ title this year.
“I think they have the best defence in the league with that back three.
They’re a team who could win games 1-0 and not concede, maybe they won’t be top of the league for goals scored, but that back line with Skriniar, De Vrij and Godin, in Conte’s system which is proven in the league, they could be the anti-Juve.”
