Man Utd have secret weapon over Tottenham in Bruno Fernandes transfer negotiations
MANCHESTER UNITED have a trick up their sleeve in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon, should they want to beat Tottenham to Bruno Fernandes.
Man Utd is a ‘massive step up’ for Bruno Fernandes says fan
It’s Spurs that currently lead the race for the Portuguese star, despite closing in on a loan deal for Philippe Coutinho.
It’s not yet clear whether their pursuit of the Brazilian will impact Daniel Levy’s stance on a deal for Fernandes, but with just one day until the transfer window closes, there are still a plethora of possibilities for Tottenham.
Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Nations League winner all summer, but have still not made a formal move to sign him.
Should they make a late surge for the 24-year-old, there is one person they could use to get the upper hand on Tottenham.
According to Sky Sports man Kaveh Solhekol, super-agent Jorge Mendes is now involved in talks over the player’s exit for Sporting.
“The only firm interest there has really been interest from Spurs although there has been interest from abroad as well,” Solhekol told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“What’s significant now is that Jorge Mendes is involved in the deal.
“Jorge Mendes isn’t actually his agent but he’s been brought in by Sporting to try and get the best possible price for him.
“Of course Jorge Mendes has very, very good links to Manchester United and he knows Ed Woodward very well. They’ve done a lot of business with each other.”
Mendes played a key role in bringing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford.
He is also currently working with the club in helping secure a deal for his 16-year-old client Hannibal Mejbri.
The Monaco youngster is set to seal a transfer to Manchester worth around £9million.
It’s hoped that the deal means Mendes and United have rebuilt their relationship following an uncomfortable few months.
That was during the downfall of Jose Mourinho and contract negotiations between the club and his client De Gea.
Sporting value Fernandes at around £63m and know that failure to sell this window could see his price tag drop.
The player has said himself of a number of occasions that he is keen to move to the Premier League, but he may still be denied of the opportunity until January at least.
