Man Utd finalising Bruno Fernandes transfer with Sporting Lisbon
MANCHESTER UNITED are close to sealing the signing of Bruno Fernandes, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Manchester United MUST sign Bruno Fernandes says Nicol
Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Fernandes all summer long, with the Portugal international admired over at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old struck 31 times for his club last season and has also been linked with moves to Tottenham, PSG and Liverpool.
Manchester United have always been considered frontrunners in the race for the midfielder’s signature, however, particularly after the recent exits of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.
And, now, Italian journalist Di Marzio has claimed that United are on the cusp of securing the player’s signature.
It is claimed United are talking with Sporting to ‘close the deal’.
And that would see him become the club’s third signing of the summer after Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
In a separate post on his website, Di Marzio wrote that the Red Devils were also on the verge of landing Leicester’s Harry Maguire.
Maguire, like Fernandes, is a player who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer.
And Di Marzio wrote: “The long negotiation is about to give the white smoke.
“Harry Maguire is getting closer to Manchester United, the deal is closing.
“The Leicester defender has always made clear his desire to move to Manchester, so much so that today he has not even presented himself to the Foxes training sessions.
“His will is being respected, his transfer to the Reds is in fact being defined.”
Fernandes, meanwhile, has been backed to shine at United by ESPN pundit Steve Nicol.
“This has to be a hit. He’s a great player,” ESPN FC pundit Nicol said of Fernandes heading to Old Trafford.
“Manchester United don’t have many great players, they need great players.
“They need to start doing something. We’ve got a couple of weeks until the start of the season and pretty much they’ve done nothing.
“It looks like the only thing that’s going to happen to them is they’re going to lose players not sign players.
“Talking the way we are does a disservice to this guy because I think this guy is a great player.”
