Dani Ceballos transfer shows Arsenal want to sell one star this summer - Hislop
DANI CEBALLOS’ arrival at Arsenal proves the club want to sell Mesut Ozil this summer.
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and ex-West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Ceballos joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Real Madrid on Thursday.
The Spaniard plays in a similar position to Ozil and therefore could take his spot in the Gunners side.
Ozil was not always a regular under Unai Emery during the head coach’s first season in charge at the Emirates.
I firmly believe that the club would prefer to be rid of Mesut Ozil
The German was often left out of match-day squads altogether.
And Hislop says the arrival of Ceballos shows Ozil is no longer wanted at Arsenal.
“This just signals exactly what Unai Emery thinks of Mesut Ozil,” Hislop said.
“I firmly believe that the club would prefer to be rid of Mesut Ozil but they can’t get anybody to take over that contract.
“By his standards he was a bit-part player, particularly in the second half of last season.
“I think this makes the new season look even more ominous for Mesut Ozil.”
Hislop has questioned whether the signing of Ceballos was the right move for Arsenal though.
He claims there are other areas on the pitch they need to be focusing on strengthening instead.
“Arsenal have other issues that I thought needed addressing first,” Hislop continued.
“Ceballos is a good signing but I don’t think it fixes any of their problems.
“I don’t think it gets Arsenal fans sleeping any easier at night.”
