It was previously held in January and February, causing disputes with European clubs who lose players during the middle of the season.
The Confederation of African Football confirmed in April that a prise fund of $14.2million would be shared between the best eight teams at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Countries knocked at the quarter-final stage were rewarded with $800,000.
Beaten semi-finalists Nigeria and Tunisia contested in the third-place play-off for a share of $4m, with each nation taking home $2m.
Nigeria won the match 1-0 thanks to Odion Ighalo’s early goal.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final is a $7m showdown.
The winning nation will earn $4.5m, while the runners-up will collect $2.5m.
