Manchester United urged to send four-word transfer message to Paul Pogba
MANCHESTER UNITED must put their foot down and refuse Paul Pogba a move away from the club the summer.
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Pogba revealed earlier this summer he is open to leaving Manchester United for a fresh challenge.
That was reiterated by his agent Mino Raiola on Friday in an interview with The Times.
"Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on,” Raiola said.
If I’m Manchester United I put my foot down - ‘you’re not going anywhere’
“We are in the process of that. Everyone knows what the feelings of Paul are.
"Everyone within the club, from the manager to the owner, knows Paul's wishes."
However, Hislop does not think selling the 26-year-old is the right decision.
He reckons it would send out the wrong message to the market that agents can get their way with them.
“If I’m Manchester United I put my foot down - ‘you’re not going anywhere’,” Hislop said.
“Both Raiola and Paul Pogba have been clever in the way they’ve stated things and you can read it both ways.
“But if I’m sitting in that Manchester United boardroom, I am only seeing this one way.
“Paul Pogba wants to go and they’re putting things in places to leave.
“Manchester United, as a tough a time that they have had over the last couple of years, as much as they are shadows of their former selves, you want to establish some kind of authority in the market with players who have a contract, with agents that maybe think that they’re bigger than you are.
“You just say ‘listen, nobody’s going anywhere. We can afford to keep you and pay you and not play you’.
“Just for the long term benefit for United as a club, that’s the stance I take.”
