Arsenal hero Keown slams Emery for what he's done before Chelsea - ‘what are we doing?'
ARSENAL legend Martin Keown has questioned Unai Emery for his squad’s build up to the Europa League final.
Arsenal v Chelsea: Europa League final preview
Arsenal face Chelsea in Baku on Wednesday in the Gunners' first European final since 2006.
Emery has a great track record in the Europa League, having won the competition three times as a manager - on more occasions than anyone else.
Arsenal travelled to Azerbaijan on Saturday, two days before Chelsea flew out on Monday.
And Keown cannot understand why Emery has taken his side away so early.
I’m a little bit uncomfortable with the Arsenal team being out here since Saturday
He claims he would have questioned former manager Arsene Wenger if he did a similar thing during his time as a player.
Keown says he would have rather had more time with his family than travel five days before the match.
“I’m a little bit uncomfortable with the Arsenal team being out here since Saturday,” Keown said on BT Sport.
“I never would have been a fan of that.
“I would have said so to Arsene Wenger, ‘what are we doing?’.
“It’s a long time to think about [the final].
“I’d prefer to build up by spending that little bit of time with the family, enjoying what’s to come.
“And then once you get here, you’re really focused.
“I think there’s a risk taken but I believe what the manager’s done on previous occasions.
“Emery’s won it three times, who am I to question that?
“But for the players, it feels like a long time to be here.”
