Real Madrid’s Real Betis La Liga defeat is bad news for Man Utd and Chelsea
REAL MADRID’s La Liga defeat with Real Betis is bad news for Manchester United and Chelsea. Because, on this evidence, Los Blancos will certainly come knocking at their doors this summer.
Real Madrid: Gareth Bale will NOT go to Man Utd says pundit
Real Madrid slumped to a shock 2-0 defeat to Real Betis at the Bernabeu in both teams’ final La Liga match of the season.
Los Blancos went into the game expected to secure three points but ultimately struggled, with goals from Loren Moron and Jese meaning Zinedine Zidane has much to ponder this summer.
It has been a nightmare campaign for Real Madrid and, against Betis, several players struggled once again.
Among them was Luka Modric. Last summer he was the best midfielder on the planet, having helped Zidane’s side win the Champions League and then starring at the World Cup in Russia.
Modric has lost his mojo and, on the basis of his Betis display, Zidane is sure to intensify attempts to raid Manchester United for Paul Pogba this summer.
Pogba is understood to be the Frenchman’s No 1 target - though Florentino Perez has doubts.
But Perez, Zidane and Real Madrid in general cannot afford to rely on Modric much in the future.
His passing remains impressive but he has lost the ability to dictate matches at the highest level this season.
Pogba would be a gamble. He has been erratic for United this season, to put it lightly.

But his energy and passing range makes him the ideal player to pick up Modric’s mantle. Getting him out of United may be tricky, however, given Ed Woodward’s determination to keep him.
Another player Real sorely need is a top-class attacker. And by need, we mean really, really need.
Gareth Bale will be sold this summer. Against Betis, he was left on the substitutes bench.
Karim Benzema’s days are numbered. He has improved under Zidane but, ultimately, simply isn’t good enough.
Vinicius Jr and Brahim Diaz are ones for the future.
