Wolves fan TROLL Liverpool by making up lies about Man City game in title battle
WOLVES fans ostensibly trolled their Liverpool counterparts during their final-day clash by feeding false information about Manchester City’s scoreline against Brighton.
Liverpool headed into their Premier League curtain-closer relying on Manchester City to slip up at the Amex.
As for themselves, the Reds needed to win against Wolves to have any chance of clinching their first title in 29 years.
It started well for Liverpool, opening the scoring inside 17 minutes.
After Trent Alexander-Arnold forayed, as he does so well, down the right flank, he drilled a low cross into the penalty area which ricocheted into the direction of Sadio Mane, who turned it home.
That sent Liverpool fans jubilant, knowing they had just temporarily gone top of the table.
But Anfield then erupted for an unbeknown reason a few minutes later.
It seemed as if the crowd believed Brighton had taken the lead against City - but the score was still 0-0.
The reason behind the Liverpudlians’ cheers was potentially explained by a journalist at Anfield, though.
Suggestion that Wolves supporters are starting up the fake Brighton goal celebrations at Anfield
“Suggestion that Wolves supporters are starting up the fake Brighton goal celebrations at Anfield, setting off the rest of the stadium,” Sam Cunningham of the i wrote.
The irony was that a few minutes later Brighton did actually take the lead through Glenn Murray.
The 35-year-old nodded home from a corner, sending City fans into a state of panic, and Liverpool fans into true joy this time around.
But those hopes of a near-miracle among Scousers was cut short, with Sergio Aguero equalising for the reigning champions one minute later.
Pep Guardiola’s side then took the lead seven minutes before half-time as Aymeric Laporte charged onto a corner, powerfully heading into the bottom corner.
It meant the Premier League trophy would be heading back to the Etihad Stadium, as things stood at half-time on a tense last day in the title race.
