Barcelona star Luis Suarez slammed for showing ‘no respect’ by Liverpool legend Aldridge
BARCELONA striker Luis Suarez has been heavily criticised by Liverpool hero John Aldridge.
Barcelona: Suarez is an 'absolute disgrace' says Liverpool fan
Barcelona beat Liverpool 3-0 on Wednesday in their Champions League semi-final first leg.
Luis Suarez grabbed headlines due to his wild celebrations after scoring the opening goal against his former club.
Fans were incensed by the lack of respect shown by the Uruguayan to his former side, and John Aldridge has denounced the celebration on Twitter.
He wrote: “Luis Suarez who I adored at Anfield, showed NO RESPECT for his ex club.
“Also Barcelona don’t need to do them tricks, they’ve got too much talent!
“I wonder what Pep would have thought seeing them act in that manner.”
Aldridge played for the Reds from 1987 until 1989, scoring 63 goals in 104 appearances in all competitions.
The ex-Republic of Ireland international, who won the league title with Liverpool in 1988, also urged the players to move on from the crushing defeat and try to focus on the remainder of the season.
He added: “Not what we expected!! Harsh lesson, but if you don’t take you’re chances, that’s what happens against quality!!
“Big ask next week.”
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde remains unconvinced of his side’s progression despite their 3-0 lead - which could offer Liverpool hope of a shock comeback.
“Last year we went in the quarter-finals with three goals [against Roma] and they came back to us. The tie is open, there is no reason to trust us," Valverde claimed.
“Sometimes you can dominate the pace of the game and other times the game dominates you," he added.
"Sometimes we tried to put a pause, but they then pushed us back. And we were interested in going forward, not back.
“The match has been matched, there have been minutes in which they have been better and minutes in which we have been better.
“They have the capacity to make us suffer, us and anyone.”
