Gerrard’s side have, though, lost three times to Derek McInnes’ Dons so far this season, and the ex-Liverpool captain is aware of the threat they pose.
He continued: “Results against Aberdeen damaged us, especially in the cup. We are fully expecting a tough game again at the weekend.
“I think there has been progress in different areas, I look at the bigger picture and not just the points tally. There is still a lot of work to do.”
Gerrard has promised fans that they will improve the squad in order to compete for silverware next season, and he revealed his plans ahead of Sunday’s fixture.
